Ryan Leslie, is definitely one of my favorite artist. He is always re-inventing and adding something new to his music. He is a talented man and I think is a way he is part of Hip-hop too.

Rihanna, Chris Brown, Domestic Abuse

Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to two felony charges after his alleged fight with ex-girlfriend Rihanna in February. There was an issue with him and Rihanna. Last month, the 'Run It' singer was charged by Los Angeles County prosecutors with felony assault likely to cause great bodily injury and making criminal threats. He was arrested on Feb. 9 after police said he was involved in an early morning altercation with a woman who identified the Jive Records singer as her attacker. Court records list Brown's victim as "Robyn F." Rihanna's given name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. The 21-year-old 'Umbrella' singer and Cover Girl cosmetics spokesperson was represented by attorney Donald Etra, who said after the hearing that the singer is in "fine spirits" and spending time with her family in Barbados. Etra also reportedly said Rihanna is hoping that a deal can be worked out before a preliminary hearing or trial in the case, but that she will testify if required to. "She would be pleased if this was over quickly," he said. According to Etra, Brown's plea was "totally expected." If found guilty, Brown, who starred in the movies 'Stomp The Yard' and 'This Christmas,' could be sentenced to probation or nearly five years in prison. Neither side has publicly addressed Brown and Rihanna's relationship since the incident. The couple has reportedly been spotted together since the controversy ensued. Brown left the courthouse with his mother, two bodyguards and an entourage. On his way out, he had to walk through a phalanx of cameras. He was picked up by a car in front of the courthouse. Rihanna has lost her contract with Covergirl and which is crazy and Chris Brown got to keep all his contracts and sponsors. I wonder why? Covergirl you would think would want to keep her because she can use Covergirl's products to cover up her marks. LOL but another thing is that Covergirl also did a spread about makeup being very dark and black and blue... it almost looked like these women were women who had been beaten and had makeup on to cover them up. Also there is the commercial that is out with Keira Knightley which talks about sexual abuse, assault, and harassment, it is a good commercial. So this is the commercial addressing Domestic Abuse....

Group Projects

This was the piece we did for the group performance. We will work on this and really shake things up for the final performance at Diamond Theater. Everyone did good and I really was impressed by everyone because they are really coming out of their shells and expressing themselves. And those who were already performers are just improving and making them a better well rounded performer. I really enjoyed the project and it went well. The women did a good job with their performance and I was thoroughly impressed.

Beat boxing

Beat boxing is a form of vocal percussion, which primarily involves the art of producing, drum beats, rhythm, and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue, voice, and more. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turntables, the simulation of horns, strings, and other musical instruments. Beat boxing is connected with hip-hop culture although it is not limited to hip hop music. Beat boxing in hip hop originated in 1980s. Its early pioneers include Doug E. Fresh, Buffy from the Fat Boys & Wise (Stetsasonic). Credits of the three include Doug E. Fresh for being the self-proclaimed first "human beat box,” Buffy for helping perfecting the art & Wise for taking it to a level that inspired other individuals to want to be a human beat box. Wise with his human turntable technique inspired a whole new fan base of human beat boxers. The term "beat boxing" is derived from the mimicry of the first generation of drum machines, and then known as beat boxes. This video I have up here is sick. This dude can really beat box and mix everything I was talking about above.

My Hip Hop Generation and Women Snippet...

Critique of Artist

After four weeks of intense training and guidance this hip-hop artist is starting to come into his own writing and posting a lot of useful and meaningful information, songs, and poetry on his blog in his journal. He has created some great pieces titled “Unfinished….”, and his hot new poem “It’s me...” He is not scared to showcase his talents on stage, he isn’t afraid to do that. The artist said, “I really have learned to make something personal and I try to give something everyone will enjoy and really take something from each piece I write.” In this new video that the artist just did he wanted to send a message out to his own hip-hop generation. The performer did a good job with his message talking about how the messages that Hip-hop sends needs to be more positive then negative. He mainly talked about how the lyrics of today which needs to speak more positively about women. In his video a suggestion that I have is that maybe he could’ve looked more into the video camera and really get the audience engaged with what he was saying. He did a good job with the deliverance and captured the audience with his voice. In his original piece he talks about hip-hop generation how it has changed from old to new. I think he brings up a question about this genre is, “Can Hip Hop Be Resurrected?” Hip-Hop is dead for quite some time now, just like Nas stated in Hip Hop Is Dead that was released in December 2006. Can it be resurrected? It sure doesn’t sound like it when you turn on the radio. What used to be vibrant, exciting and groundbreaking music just appears like facade now. The only topics that are being discussed in the past years are “bling bling”, “how many guns you have”, “how many cars you have”, “Ho’s”, “Laffy Taffy”, “Lip Gloss”, “Chicken Noodle Soup” etc. So what happened to rap music? How did rap devolve form its glorious past from what even some founders believe is its least motivated period? One of the many reasons for that is the commercialization in music, today; artists want money and fame for their talent, instead of actually using their talent as an art. Back in hip-hop’s glory days of the ‘80s and early‘90s, to artist like Public Enemy, Rakim, KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan and the list is endless. Despite the different approaches they seemed to somehow talk about something meaningful. In this video that was posted, the artist did a good job talking about how hip-hop today needs to be changed to speak a more meaningful message to people but especially to women. I know that if these rappers keep calling women these names then they justify the fact that everyone else can call them these degrading names. I feel that this artist can do big things for the upcoming year. His words speak knowledge, which gets people to think very critically about the world. I think that he can really get people to change and improve the world’s overall function. I also see that he like to bring comedy and a lot of personality to his story, so I am excited for this artist future work.

I’m just saying things need to be changed with some commodity exchange with ideas either being fired at close range or far like at a driving range, (I’m just saying)

i'm not the typical kid who writes about hardships,
life in boces with mom's and dad's getting divorces,
i'm a military brat, that's what I is,
a kid born in Pensacola, Florida,, with 2 sisters and a brotha
at the age of one we moved to queens new york,
flushing to be exact 45 25 bowne street was were my house was at,
i went to ps24 round the blcok, kids of different races and brackgrouds running and what not,
we then move to MI, michigan baby thats where I was at, went to school which was at first kind of wack,
all white no diversitty around my block, games consisted of tic tac toe, racketball, hockey, and golf,
there was no b-ball at the park after dark,
i reall saw forms of discrimination at my school,
cause everyone thought my family was a fool,
cause me my brohter and sister were like the token black kids in the neighboorhood,
but that strived us to do better then the rest and do better then them on every test,
I was the one in my family who tried to make everyone laugh, by entertaining them I was a fool,
doing dumb stuff like pretending I was part of the heartbeats in my living room,
Sometimes I was out of line, acting worse then I was nine,
and mom and dad had no problem letting my behind know,
and at times it felt good to rest my ass in the snow,

Self Destruction

The Stop the Violence Movement was formed by rapper KRS-One in 1988/1989 in response to violence in the hip hop and black communities. During a Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert, a young fan was killed in a fight; galvanized into action, KRS-One founded the Stop the Violence Movement. Comprised of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip-hop, the movement released a single ('Self Destruction') in 1989 with all proceeds going to the National Urban League. All the media focused on was the negative aspects of rap and Hip-Hop music which downplayed a lot of political rappers, who talked about making change happen. This song focuses on the changes that need to happen within the Black community or they will lead themselves to, as they say in the song, "self-destruction". The violence needs to stop and there are a lot of rappers on this track talking about things that need change. So think that the media should also focus on the positive aspects of Hip-hop which it so rarely does.

I feel like this is a kid like rhyme but hey its what I'm rockin right now:

ABC (Another Bad Creation)

I think that another topic that people should discuss is young kid hip-hop stars back in the days. We see that hip hop had mostly men MC's and big icons, then women started breaking into the industry, but we also must mention kids. I think that there were and are many kids on the mic that were good. I posted this group another bad creation otherwise known as ABC because they were kids who I think knew what Hip-hop was about. And we also see in the video this change in style, dance, and culture within Hip hop emerging in the early 90's.

LL (Ladies Love) Cool J

LL stands for ladies love legend and leather,

  LL Cool J is the ladies man.  His swagger was one that the women were drawn to.  And he really loves women and doesn't just think of them like property.  His song, "I Need Love" says it all about what he thinks about women.  He has been around the game for so long almost...what now.... 24 years or something to that extent... damn that  long time.

First Hip-hop theatre class

The class began with an introduction of who the professor and the AT's were.  Also we were able to meet other kids in the class through a mini game.  The class seems like a good group of kids who are willing to learn more about hip-hop.  Then we, the students were instructed to free write what hip-hop means to us.  I wrote a little bit about how hip-hop is people on the mic MC ing , talking about anything, people on the mix boards, and the breakdancing and the people with spray paint or graffiti art.  It is people standing on the corner rapping about anything whether it be the struggles or hardships in the community or the good things in life.  The class seems interesting and make me ready to learn more about hip hop.
